Wow, now this is a sure sign of how Eclipse is starting to dominate the IDE market. Borland have announced that they are to adopt Eclipse as the basis for upcoming releases of their Java IDE, JBuilder, relacing their investment in their own proprietaty technology for their IDE.
Of the other IDEs currently out there I think JBuilder has long been one of the other great IDEs on the market, and from some brief experience with it it was a great tool. I wonder what has driven Borland to make this switch – are they losing that much market share to Eclipse that they feel they need to adopt Eclipse in order to keep up? The only danger here is that they produce another super bloatware IDE such as IBM’s WSAD/RAD, which becomes almost unusable for very large development projects, so it will be interesting so see what they come up with.
