There was a time not so long ago when developers would spend a large proportion of their time optimizing their code to fit into the smallest memory space. Mainframe development was before my time, but I remember developing small apps for my Sinclair/Timex ZX Spectrum with a whopping 48k of RAM.
With hardware costs decreasing and processing/storage capacities ever increasing, that all seems all irrelevant, and especially obvious from each new release of commercial bloat-ware from the large software companies.
