Sony, IBM and Toshiba to renew ‘Cell’ partnership

Sony, IBM and Toshiba invested more than $400 million back in 2000 to research, design and produce the Cell processor, the multcore (7) processor that will be the main CPU for the PS3 when it launches this year.

The three companies have decided to renew this partnership, and are expected to utilize the new CPU in a variety of consumer electronic devices, yet to be annouced.
