MS Flight Simulator 2024: Around the World update 5: I5 North through California, into Oregon

I have a backlog of screenshots to catchup on with my Around the World flight – here’s continuing from Update 4 – this update covers 2 legs, from Edwards to Half Moon Bay KHAF, and then onto Southwest Oregon Regional KOTH:

After leaving Edwards and flying over LA, I started flying North following I5 over the Grapevine and into the California valley:

Took a short break on this leg, stopping at Elk Hills Buttonwillow L62:

From Buttonwillow I headed west to the California coast, passed San Luis Obispo and then started heading north along the coast:

More scenery streaming issues over SFO:

Realtime weather, fogged in approaching Sonoma County for a break:

Northern California following 101 north:

It’s surprising how mountainous most of the Oregon coast line is:

I ended this leg at Southwest Oregon Regional KOTH, but forgot to take any screenshots on approach.

Next up, heading through Washington and on to Alaska.

MS Flight Simulator 2024: Around the World update 3: East Coast US heading West

I haven’t posted any updates since my last post in December when I arrived in on the East coast of Canada since there was a few hours of not too much to report, at least in the way of interesting screen shots, so this post is a catch up.

I had terrible scenery streaming experience across most of East coast of Canada, so unfortunately most of the scenery was not particularly interesting and was rendered with low detail:

I’m flying with live weather though, so there was lots of snow:

I did take a detour to fly over the Niagara Falls, but I’m not sure where my screenshots at that time saved to, so I might have to do a followup post from my flight over that area.

Flying towards Cleveland around the edge of Lake Erie was a highlight, with some spectacular weather:

“Hello Cleveland!” :

Of course I had to stop and get some pics of the Rock and Roll Museum:

On reaching Chicago I had to take slight detour to see Meigs Field, which in MSFS 2024 is apparently under some water right now:

From Chicago I decided if I was heading West, I might as well follow the path of Route 66. Unfortunately from the air, I had a few hours of very flat scenery:

It wasn’t until getting close to Albuquerque that I started to see anything other than completely flat landscape for miles:

At least from this point continuing West the scenery should start to get more interesting. The current plan is to continue to LA, then I’ll fly North up the West coast, and will head across to Russia from Alaska.

MS Flight Simulator 2024: Around the World update 2: Greenland to Newfoundland

After terrible streaming scenery performance in MSFS2024 for the first leg, I was planning to continue in MSFS2020 but had to wait for an update to complete downloading, so continued the next couple of legs in FSX (yes, really). I discovered that Little Nav Map tracks your flights regardless of whether you’re running FSX (with the 32 bit app), or with 2020 or 2024, so despite starting out using a mix of all the above so far, I’m still able to track my progress in a single place:

On approach to Goose Bay was treated so an awesome snowy sunset:

After arriving in Canada I continued in MSFS2024 in the TBM 830 – at least this time the plane itself was streaming in complete and not missing any bodywork like before, but could not say the same for most airports when starting a leg on the runway – trees were rendering as Minecraft trees for some reason:

For the next couple of legs heading south I’ll be continuing in 2024 and the TBM as I head in to the US.
