Sun discuss J2SDK 1.6 multitasking features within the VM
At the ClusterWorld conference this week, Sun Senior Architect Murali Kaundinya discussed new features for J2SDK 1.6 that will allow the VM to multitask processes within the VM.
This new feature is expected to allow control over isolated application tasks within the same VM and to allow them to be executed concurrently.
J2SDK 1.5 currently in beta is expected to be released in a production release ready for JavaOne this summer.
A beta release of Java 1.6 is expected to be released this fall.
IBM add dedicated Java processing module for mainframes
On the 40th aniversary of the first IBM mainframe, IBM unveiled a number of new mainframe products, the most interesting of which is a dedicated Java processing module, the zSeries Application Assist Processor, or zAAP.
The module will cost an additional $125,000 per processor.
Microsoft release Windows Installer Source Code on SourceForge
Microsoft have released the source code for Windows Installer as Open Source on SourceForge.
This is apparently the first of a number of non-core projects that Microsoft will be open-sourcing. This is obviously a move for Microsoft to appeal to Linux and open source users.
