Sony will be releasing version 1.6 of the PS3’s firmware for download this Thursday, 3/22/6, one day ahead of the European PS3 launch.
This firmware update is a significant update due the the features rumored to be added in this release. The most interesting and potentially most useful new feature will be the ability to use the ‘Remote Play’ feature to stream your media content from your PS3 to your PSP remotely from any WiFi hotspot across the internet. The feature already exists but is currently limited to use within WiFi distance of your PS3. Background downloading of content from the online store is also likely to be added.
