Use:
/sbin/service [name] start | stop
To configure services to run at startup, use:
chkconfig [name] on | off
Linux system admin using Webmin
Webmin is a web front-end for administrating a Linux system. It gives incredibly simple web based access to tweak and configure the system through your browser.

I don’t mind reading through man pages and searching around on websites to work out what commands I need to manage my Linux server (on which this site runs), but I recently came across Webmin which made my life a whole lot easier.

Sun almost ready for open source Solaris
Sun have been working with the Open Source Initiative on their license they are going to use when they release Solaris as open source, possibly this year.
Solaris has previous been selling Solaris, their flavor of Unix for their Sun hardware, and hopes to start competing head-on with Linux when they release it as open source.
