IBM to ship free edition of Websphere
This community edition will be based on Apache Geronimo, Apache’s open source implementation of a J2EE server, with additional features from Gluecode, the Geronimo administration addon’s which IBM recently acquired.
Tivo to support media transfer to handheld devices
Tivo is to release an update in February which will allow users to transfer their recorded shows and movies to handheld devices such as the video iPod and Sony PSP. Support will also allow transfer to other PCs.
The timing of this release in February ’06 is interesting because Sony’s PS3 is expected to start shipping next Spring (in Japan initially), and this is also expected to have Tivo like functionality with support for mobile video players, expeciallly the PSP.
1 day to XBox360 launch
The Microsoft XBox360 is due to start selling at 12:01am Tuesday (tomorrow morning). For a select few, Microsoft has been holding a launch party in a large hanger in Palmdale, CA, from Sunday 12:01am to Tuesday 12:01am – those at the event have access to around 500 of the new consoles to try out the launch titles.
