Java Posse – 1 year anniversary podcast!

The JavaPosse just celebrated their 1st year of putting out their awesome regular weekly podcast on Java news, hints and tips – if you haven’t come across these guys yet I urge you to download an episode and take a listen: – the latest is here (although this episode is obviously ‘enhanced’ by some celebration drinking!).

As well as the feedback you can leave on the site, the Posse has also started a Google Group which has been picking up a lot of momentum with listeners, with a number of active Java-related discussion threads going on.

Java SE 6 ready for Microsoft Vista

Sun has been doing it’t homework to ensure that when Microsoft Vista ships, Java will run on the new OS. Java SE 6 has been developed to take advantage of the operatinng system changes in Vista, and has been tested already on the beta versions that have been available to far.

Pre-orders for PS3 already sold out of limited allotments

Game stores in the US GamesStop and EB Games annouced yesterday that they were taking preorders for the PS3 for when it ships in the US on November 17. Unfortunately if you weren’t in a store in person with $100 in hand to reserve yours in the first few minutes of the annoucement, they have already all gone.

Each store was reportedly only allocated between 8 and 16 units. Expect shortages this holiday season, and probably don’t expect to be able to walk into any store after Nov 17 to pick one up off the shelf, because people are going to be snapping up these guys as fast as they appear. Also expect massively overpriced reselling on eBay to come your way any day now…

Google buys YouTube for $1.65m in stock

This rumour has been circulating for a few days, but yesterday the big news was that Google has agreed to buy video sharing site YouTube for $1.65 million in stock.

This is a good complement to Google’s own video sharing service, but Google has said so far that YouTube will keep it’s own identity and site, but will work with YouTube to add and enhance features for their own and the YouTube site.
