Sun will be announcing their plans for Sun & Java going forward at 9am PST today, and Apple are holding their press conference at 10am PST to announce what ever it is they are going to announce.

Based on all the iTable/iSlate/iPad rumors, here’s some features that I would like to see:

• multifinger gestures
• proximity sensing interaction (popup menus as your finger approaches the screen?)
• texture/tactile feedback
• stream HD output wirelessly over wireless HDMI

My bet on the name is that it won’t be the iPad – the recent fuss over this name was just to keep competitors away from a name that’s too close to the iPod, plus it sounds too much like some electronic sanitary product. My bet is going on either iTablet or iSlate, or maybe even the Apple Slate, or Apple Tablet

HTML5 features are coming – the interesting thing is that the video player in HTML5 can be used to replace Flash based video players. Although Flash is used to enhance many websites, I wonder if it’s primary/most widespread use is for Flash based video players? Wonder what this is going to do for Flash?

Up until now most people have been speculating the iSlate or iTablet – the iSlate since Apple registered this name a few years back as a trademark and also registered the islate.com and islate.co.uk domain names through an intermediary back in 2006. The interesting thing is while most articles have been talking about the iSlate or iTablet, last week there was an article on the local Sacramento TV news about the upcoming device and they kept referring to it as the iPad – strange I thought, since no-one else was refering to it by that name.

Well, this morning, this article claims the latest rumor is that the device will be the iPad, since Apple registered this name through a dummy company owned by Apple most recently in July 2009. Doing a few more searches, there was a Borders book survey back in August 2009 where one of the questions asked if they were planning on buying an ‘Apple iPad’ – maybe at the time with was just a typo?

So there you have it. Could it be that the tablet device to be announced next week is the iPad?

Oracle is expecting the EU to give their go ahead for their buyout of Sun next week. Also planned for next week, Oracle are giving a press conference Wednesday to outline their plans for their integration of Sun and it’s products.
