Sun have purchased some intellectual property from SavaJe, arguably one of the best usage examples of Java ME in a mobile device so far with their SavaJe Phones. I expect there will be a big announcement at JavaOne about this later this year since exact details are scarce right now. It would seem that the only reason that this would be of benefit to Sun would be if they were planning on launching their own Java Phone hardware for sale, maybe in competition to Apple’s upcoming iPhone?
