Killer Java Desktop App?
I didn’t know Limewire was still around (I had a look at it out of curiousity quite a while ago), but Hans Muller in his blog on the java.net site mentioned that this Java app is picking up a lot of momentum.
It’s currently up to 1.4 million downloads a month – thats a huge number for any app, but its a truely massive number for a Java application. Hans mentions that on download.com, it’s currently 3 times the downloads of WinZip, 10 times RealPlayer, and about 20 times Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Playable version of Playstation 3 to be at E3 2005 in May
In a Sony financial conference, it was mentioned that a playable version of the Playstation 3 will be on show at the E3 conference in the US in May, this year. Can’t wait to see what this games on this machine will look like, powered by massively powerful hardware (in comparison with today’s consoles).
Concurrency in Java 5.0
Java 1.5/5.0 introduced a new pacakge of concurrency utilities (based on Doug Lea’s Oswego package) that offer far more granular control over threads and their synchronization. java.sun.com have an interesting article that introduces these new features.
