Groovy Language approved as JSR
JSR 241 has been approved as the specification for the Groovy language.
Groovy is an OO language similar to features found in Ruby, Python and Smalltalk, that compiles to Java bytecode and can be executed on a regular Java VM.
The goal of Groovy is to produce a scripting language that can provide RAD development features and fill the gap in Java development, where sometimes a scripting language is needed to perform simple tasks.

IBM to rewrite all Rational tools to integrate better with Elipse
IBM use the Eclipse open source software platform as the basis for it’s Websphere Studio tool set.
Sun to start early-release program for Studio Creator
Studio Creator, formally known as Project Rave, will be available in an early-release version for download next month (April 2004).
Studio Creator is being pitched as Sun’s attempt to bring additional developers to the Java platform, in particular Visual Basic developers, by offering a visual tool to aid development.
