First Cell based computers available from IBM

IBM has it’s first machines available based on the Cell processor, which was jointly developed between IBM, Sony and Toshiba (and will be the core of the PS3 when it ships).

The Blade based machine, the QS20, features dual 3.2GHz BE processors, each featuring one Power Processing Element (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs).

The architecture is is focused on high performance processing and graphics manipulation, and is likely to be attractive to the medical, aerospace and defense, and oil and gas industries.

The devices is expected to sell for a cool $18,995.
