History of the Hard Drive

news.com have a great article covering the history of the hard drive, since this week is the 50th anniversary since IBM introduced the first version. Back then the RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control) weighed 1 ton with 50 24″ platters, and stored just 5MB.

This year should be the first year we see 1TB drives introduced – this would lseem ike an impossibility to the first users of the RAMAC machine back then…
