Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World-Wide Web, was awarded a Finnish Millenium Technology Prize and $1.2million for his contribution to technology.
He also dismisses the rumor that Rich Green left Sun in disgust after the settlement – Green was instrumental in the completion of the settlement, and left ‘for other reasons’, but stayed until the deal was completed so he could leave with a sense of closure.
At the ClusterWorld conference this week, Sun Senior Architect Murali Kaundinya discussed new features for J2SDK 1.6 that will allow the VM to multitask processes within the VM.
This new feature is expected to allow control over isolated application tasks within the same VM and to allow them to be executed concurrently.
J2SDK 1.5 currently in beta is expected to be released in a production release ready for JavaOne this summer.
A beta release of Java 1.6 is expected to be released this fall.
Microsoft have released the source code for Windows Installer as Open Source on SourceForge.
This is apparently the first of a number of non-core projects that Microsoft will be open-sourcing. This is obviously a move for Microsoft to appeal to Linux and open source users.
